Muscat: The Public Prosecution stated that the First Instance Court in Muscat (the Criminal Department) had convicted, on Thursday 05/11/2020, an Arab and an Omani defendant (in association) with the misdemeanor of using the information network and information technology means to publish what would harm the public order, and the misdemeanor dealing with the country’s currency with contempt.
The prosecution said in a statement: that it had decided to punish the first accused with four months imprisonment and a fine (1,000) one thousand Omani Rials, and to punish the second accused with two months and ten days imprisonment and a fine (1,300) one thousand three hundred Omani Rials, confiscate the device used in the crime, and deporting the first accused from the country for a period of (3) three years, with the order to post judgment.
This ruling comes, according to what the public prosecution explained, after the first defendant – while she was in the vehicle of the second accused – published a video clip via the Snapchat application, in which she appears in a picture that contempt of the national currency, and they were caught, investigated with them, and referred to the court.
