Dhaka: The death toll from a boat capsizing in Bangladesh has risen to 41.

The boat carrying more than 80 passengers capsized in the Korotoya River in the Panchagarh district of northern Bangladesh.

Among the victims were 22 women and 12 children, and the process of tracing the missing is still going on, according to a temporary control room set up locally to distribute information about the accident.

Hundreds of people die each year in ferry accidents in Bangladesh, a low-lying country that has extensive inland waterways and lax safety standards.
