Oman Records 8.22 Million Mobile Service Subscriptions

Muscat: The total number of mobile service subscriptions in the Sultanate of Oman reached 8,222,037 by the end of April 2026, recording a growth of 2 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2025, according to data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The data indicated that active postpaid mobile subscriptions increased by 5 percent to reach 1,298,229 subscriptions, while prepaid mobile subscriptions declined by 1 percent to stand at 5,240,248 subscriptions.

Subscriptions to Internet of Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine services also recorded growth of 8 percent, reaching 1,683,560 subscriptions by the end of April 2026.

In the internet services sector, the total number of active mobile broadband subscriptions reached 5,428,965, while active fixed broadband subscriptions increased by 1 percent to 590,252 subscriptions.

Fiber optic subscriptions for homes and business establishments grew by 7 percent to 361,078 subscriptions, reflecting continued demand for high-speed connectivity services.

Meanwhile, fixed 5G subscriptions declined slightly by 2 percent to 210,952 subscriptions, while satellite internet subscriptions recorded significant growth of 198 percent, reaching 1,517 subscriptions.

The data also showed declines in some legacy technologies. Fixed 4G subscriptions fell by 68 percent to 6,672 subscriptions, while Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) subscriptions decreased by 26 percent to 9,304 subscriptions.

Other internet subscription categories, including internet services delivered through power lines, Ethernet connections and leased internet lines, declined by 7 percent to 729 subscriptions compared to the same period last year.
