Musandam Targets Non-Oil Growth Through Tourism, Maritime Economy and Logistics

Khasab: Musandam Governorate is strengthening its non-oil economy by leveraging its strategic location, marine resources, distinctive landscapes and growing investment opportunities in tourism, fisheries, logistics and value-added industries.

The governorate is seeking to transform its geographical and natural advantages into sustainable economic opportunities that can attract quality investments, create jobs, expand private-sector participation and support the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Qutaiti, Director of the Department of Trade, Industry and Investment Promotion in Musandam, said the governorate has promising investment assets across several vital sectors, supported by its strategic location and diverse resources.

He identified sustainable tourism, the maritime economy, value-added industries, logistics and supply chains as key areas with significant potential for growth.

Tourism opportunities include environmental and tourist resorts, marine and adventure tourism, as well as medical and wellness tourism.

The maritime economy offers opportunities in fisheries, fish processing and packaging, marine services, boat and yacht maintenance and port-related logistics. The industrial sector also has potential in light manufacturing, fisheries-related industries, recycling and circular-economy projects.

According to Al Qutaiti, agriculture, forestry and fishing recorded growth of around 7.6 percent, highlighting the sector’s contribution to local value creation and its potential for further investment in production and related manufacturing activities.

The governorate currently has around 3,000 active economic licences covering activities such as construction contracting, fishing, fish preservation and packaging, agriculture, shipping agencies, hotels, resorts and other commercial activities.

Al Qutaiti said infrastructure and development projects are also strengthening Musandam’s connectivity and investment readiness.

Among the key projects are the development of Khasab Port, the Khasab–Lima–Dibba road, the development of Mahas Industrial City and tourism projects across the governorate.

He noted that these projects are expected to improve the business environment, facilitate commercial and tourism activity, connect economic centres and provide investors with better access to markets and resources.

Looking ahead, Musandam will focus on expanding sustainable tourism, the maritime economy, value-added industries and logistics while empowering small and medium enterprises and attracting quality investments.

The governorate’s strategy aims to increase the contribution of non-oil activities to the local economy by developing sectors that build on its natural and geographical advantages.

Al Qutaiti stressed that new investments can generate employment, strengthen local businesses, stimulate supply chains and increase the economic value generated within the governorate.

With continued infrastructure development and expansion of the investment base, Musandam aims to strengthen its position as a tourism, investment and economic destination, contributing to Oman’s broader economic diversification efforts.
