Abuja: The Nigerian military announced the killing of 175 militants during airstrikes and intensive ground operations carried out in the country’s northeast.
The army said in a statement that the operations were conducted in joint coordination between Nigerian forces and the US Africa Command.
According to the statement, the coordinated military strikes began several days ago and targeted militant groups active in the region.
States in northeastern Nigeria have witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups since 2009.
The violence has resulted in the deaths of an estimated 40,000 people and displaced nearly two million others, according to official estimates.
