OAAAQA to Launch Oman Qualifications Framework on May 31

Muscat: Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQA) will officially launch the Oman Qualifications Framework (OQF) on 31 May 2023.

The OAAAQA is responsible for the governance, management and implementation of the OQF. It is also responsible for preparing and developing the Comprehensive National Qualifications Framework, listing Omani qualifications in it, and aligning foreign and international qualifications with it”. The OQF includes qualifications from all public and private sectors of education and training in Oman. These include academic, technological, professional, technical, and vocational qualifications.

During the press conference held here today, Dr. Jokha Abdullah Al Shukhaili, CEO of the OAAAQA underscored that education is at the forefront of national priorities. She said that having a national framework insures that students are equipped with various skills, abilities and necessary knowledge that are required in the labour market.

The OQF was developed in line with supporting national economic and educational needs and to achieve a number of national objectives. These national objectives were identified in consultation with stakeholders from education and training sectors in Oman.

The OQF assists with classifying qualifications offered in Oman, comparing Omani qualifications with Foreign or International qualifications and assists with the provision of a reference point to qualifications development.

The OQF also assists with recognition of prior learning and encourages lifelong learning. It is worth noting that OQF facilitates learner progression through the qualifications system. – ONA
