Oman Begins Early Preparations for COP31 with National Coordination Workshop

Muscat (ONA): The Environment Authority today convened the first workshop for national implementation teams and participants in the thirty-first session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), with the participation of teams responsible for the various tracks of Oman’s engagement in the Conference.

The workshop forms part of the early preparations for national participation, aimed at assessing the readiness of the teams, reviewing action plans, tasks, and responsibilities, and enhancing coordination among them, so as to contribute to achieving an integrated and effective Omani presence at this international climate forum.

The Oversight and Governance Team presented the overarching framework for supervising national participation, as well as the coordination and follow-up mechanisms among the various teams, to ensure the integration of efforts and the execution of plans and tasks in line with the defined objectives for participation.

The Negotiation Team also delivered a presentation on its preparations for engagement in the climate negotiation tracks, the efforts undertaken to coordinate national positions and monitor priority files for the Sultanate of Oman, and the enhancement of its presence in international discussions and dialogues related to climate action.

The Media Team reviewed its plan to accompany Oman’s participation in the Conference, highlighting the Sultanate’s efforts, initiatives, and projects in the fields of climate change and sustainability, while reinforcing the media presence of the national participation and conveying its messages to local, regional, and international audiences. The workshop also featured a presentation by the Pavilion Team on the preparations for the Omani pavilion and its role as a platform to showcase the national experience and present initiatives, projects, and solutions related to climate action and sustainability.

The Youth Team presented its preparations for participation and for highlighting the role of Omani youth in climate action, while the Innovation and Indicators Team addressed aspects related to innovation and the measurement of indicators supporting the objectives of national participation.

The workshop further discussed matters pertaining to logistical support and coordination mechanisms among the participating teams, with a view to providing the necessary organizational and technical requirements and ensuring the readiness of Oman’s participation across the various stages of the Conference.

The workshop underscored the importance of working as a unified team and achieving integration across the negotiation, media, organizational, youth, and innovation tracks, so as to enhance the effectiveness of the Sultanate of Oman’s participation in COP31, and to showcase its national efforts in addressing climate change challenges and transitioning toward a more sustainable future.

These preparations are part of the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to strengthening its presence within the international climate action system, leveraging the Conference of the Parties as a platform to foster cooperation, partnerships, and knowledge exchange, and supporting efforts aimed at achieving national climate and development goals.
