Oman to Face Croatia in Opening Match of Beach Handball World Championships

Oman National Team Prepares for Beach Handball World Championships in Croatia

Muscat:  The International Handball Federation (IHF) has announced the match schedule for the 12th Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball World Championships, scheduled to be held in Croatia from 23 to 28 June 2026.

Oman national beach handball team will begin its campaign in the tournament by facing host nation Croatia on 23 June in Group D.

The draw placed Oman in Group D alongside Croatia, France and Australia. Oman will meet Croatia in its opening match at 3:00 pm Muscat time before taking on France later the same day at 8:00 pm. The team will conclude its preliminary round matches against Australia on 24 June at 3:00 pm Muscat time.

The tournament will feature 32 teams, including 16 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams, with a total of 144 matches scheduled.

Group A comprises Spain, Portugal, Iran and the United States, while Group B includes Hungary, Denmark, Tunisia and Puerto Rico. Group C features Germany, Brazil, Argentina and Italy.

The competition will begin with a preliminary round played in a single round-robin format. The top three teams from each group will advance to the main round before the knockout stage begins with the quarterfinals.

As part of its preparations, the Oman national team continues daily training sessions on the sand court at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher under the supervision of national coach Hamoud Salim Al Hasani and assistant coach Jaber Yaqoub Al Balushi.

The technical staff is focusing on enhancing technical and tactical readiness ahead of an external training camp in Croatia.

The team is also scheduled to participate in an international friendly tournament from 18 to 21 June involving eight teams, providing an opportunity to assess player performance and test tactical plans before the World Championships.

Oman will be making its ninth appearance at the Beach Handball World Championships and aims to build on its experience from previous international participations.

The squad includes Mahdi Al Suleimani, Yasser Al Harthy, Said Hamad Al Hasani, Hudhaifa Al Siyabi, Hamad Al Hasani, Ahmed Al Ghailani, Abdulhakim Al Siyabi, Al Yazan Al Busaidi, Said Isa Al Hasani, Muhannad Al Zarafi and As’ad Al Hasani.
