Oman Handball Team Eyes World Cup Qualification in Asian Championship

Muscat: The Oman national handball team will take part in the 22nd Asian Handball Championship, hosted by the State of Kuwait from 15 to 29 January 2026. The tournament will qualify two teams for the finals of the 2027 Handball World Cup, scheduled to be held in Germany.

The draw placed Oman in Group One alongside defending champions Qatar and South Korea. Oman will open its campaign against Qatar on 16 January at 1:00 pm (Muscat time), before facing South Korea on 18 January at 3:00 pm.

Group Two includes Bahrain, Iraq, China, and Jordan, while Group Three comprises Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, and India. Group Four features Japan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Australia.

Under the tournament system, the teams finishing first and second in each group will advance to the second round, which will include eight teams divided into two groups competing in a league format. The top two teams from each of these groups will qualify for the semi-finals, in addition to securing direct qualification for the 2027 World Cup.
