Sanya:  The Sultanate of Oman today participated in the opening ceremony of the 6th Asian Beach Games, hosted by the Chinese city of Sanya from 22 to 30 April.

Oman is represented at the Games by its national teams in football, volleyball, handball, athletics and modern pentathlon.

The Omani flag was carried during the opening ceremony by Mohammed Al Ghailani, a player from the national modern pentathlon team, alongside Alia Al Mughairi from the national athletics team.

The Games bring together 1,790 athletes representing 45 countries, competing in 14 sports and 61 events.

The opening ceremony, held at the Ring Theater in the Tianya Haijiao area, featured an artistic performance titled “A Date with the Sea and the Sky,” highlighting Asian cultural diversity and the local identity of Sanya. The event also incorporated advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, presenting a visual display that combined real and virtual elements.

As part of the competitions, Oman’s beach soccer team faces Palestine today and will meet China on 25 April. The national volleyball team will begin its campaign tomorrow, while the beach handball team will play against Thailand today.
