Muscat: Omani football star, goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi, announced his final retirement from football, saying: “After years I had the honor to represent a number of clubs at home and abroad, today I announce the end of my career as a football player.”

Ali Al-Habsi said in a tweet on his official Twitter account: “At this moment, I raise my sincere thanks and my great gratitude to all who have supported me throughout my career, stressing my continued service to my country from other sites.”

Ali Al-Habsi was chosen a time ago as an ambassador for the 2022 World Cup, and stated at the time that he considered this choice a tribute to all Omanis and not to Ali Al-Habsi’s history as a goalkeeper only.

Ali Al Habsi is Ali bin Abdullah bin Hareb Al Habsi, born on December 30, 1981, from the state of Al-Mudhaibi, and was famous for the title of honest goalkeeper, as he contributed with our first football team to achieving impressive results at the Gulf, Arab and international levels. Al Habsi worked abroad for a number of clubs, including Bolton Wanderers, Lyn Wigan and West Bromwich.

Ali Al-Habsi won several awards, including the best goalkeeper in the Gulf Cup years 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011. He also won the best Arab goalkeeper award in 2004, and was the first Arab player to win the FA Cup 2012/2013 season.
