Oman Ministry of Health Urges Public to Report Suspected Unsafe Food
Muscat: The Ministry of Health has urged consumers to take immediate action if they suspect that food is unsafe, stressing the importance of awareness and reporting in protecting public health.
The Ministry advised individuals to stop consuming any food suspected of being unsafe and to avoid giving it to others. Consumers are also encouraged to retain any remaining food or its packaging where possible, as this may assist the relevant authorities in verifying the product.
The Ministry further advised consumers to monitor for symptoms that could indicate food-related illness, including vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach pain. Those experiencing concerning symptoms should seek medical attention at the nearest health institution.
The Ministry called on members of the public to report suspected unsafe food products or food safety violations to the relevant authorities, noting that timely reports can help facilitate inspections, verify products and, where necessary, remove unsafe items from circulation.
The Ministry also highlighted several basic measures that can help prevent foodborne illness, including keeping perishable foods refrigerated or frozen, avoiding leaving food at room temperature for extended periods, using clean and properly covered containers, and keeping raw foods separate from ready-to-eat foods.
Consumers were also advised to check expiry dates, product origin, storage requirements, ingredients and instructions for use before purchasing or consuming food products.
The Ministry stressed that food safety is a shared responsibility and that consumer awareness and timely reporting play an important role in protecting individuals and the wider community.
