Three-Day Halal Tourism Workshop Begins in Salalah

Oman Explores Global Opportunities in Halal Tourism and Certification

Salalah (ONA): A specialized workshop titled “Halal Tourism” commenced today in the wilayat of Salalah. The three-day event is organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, in collaboration with the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and Omran Group.

The workshop was inaugurated under the patronage of Azzan bin Qasim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism.

The event is part of the Sultanate of Oman’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the national halal ecosystem, build technical and knowledge-based capacities in related sectors, and capitalize on the growing opportunities presented by the global Islamic economy.

It further supports the approaches towards diversifying tourism products and services while enhancing their competitiveness in accordance with regional and international standards and specifications.

The opening programme featured a visual presentation on the national halal ecosystem and an overview of the national standardization system.

The first day’s agenda encompassed several themes, including an examination of the halal tourism market within Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, the full range of opportunities in halal certification for restaurants, and the general requirements for halal food products as per approved specifications.

Over the course of the workshop, participants will address a number of specialized topics pertaining to the halal ecosystem and halal tourism, including an introduction to the standards of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries, the national halal system, the national standardization framework, as well as the concept of halal, the halal market, and halal certification procedures. The programme will also provide an overview of the global quality infrastructure for halal under the auspices of the OIC

. The workshop targets government entities and private-sector stakeholders involved in tourism, food, inspection services, the restaurant industry, and logistics. It aims to raise awareness of the requirements and specifications governing halal tourism services and to enhance the capabilities of institutions operating within these sectors.
