Muscat: The General Assembly of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) approved in its meeting today the date for the committee’s elections for the next electoral cycle (2024-2028) on Tuesday, April 22.
Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair, Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee, said in his speech that the meeting is being held within the framework of preparing for the upcoming elections of the Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee, noting that it includes two main items that reflect the Board of Directors’ keenness to establish the principles of integrity and transparency in the upcoming electoral process, namely the approval of electoral committees and the ratification of some partial amendments introduced to the elections regulations in order to enhance their clarity and effectiveness as a sustainable organizational tool.
The General Assembly members discussed the meeting agenda, where the amended version of the election regulations was approved, and the electoral committees represented by the Elections and Appeals Committees were approved.
On the other hand, the Board of Directors of the Oman Olympic Committee held its first meeting this year, discussing the approval of the minutes of the last Board of Directors meeting held on September 11, the final accounts for the fiscal year ending 2024, and the auditor’s report, in addition to reviewing the committee’s budget for the current year 2025.
The Board of Directors approved, within the items of its meeting, the programs and activities of the Oman Olympic Committee for the current year 2025, the most important of which are the external participations represented by the Third Asian Youth Games to be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Sixth Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the First West Asian Youth Games to be held in the Republic of Iraq, in addition to reviewing the internal events and programs that were presented to the Board of Directors to be held this year according to the available capabilities, such as the Olympic Day, the programs of the Oman Olympic Academy approved for this year, and a group of sports, awareness and social events that were included in the activities of the Board of Directors’ auxiliary committees, and other programs. The members discussed the latest developments in the Sultanate of Oman hosting the 3rd GCC Beach Games – Muscat 2025, which will be held from 5 to 11 April in Muscat Governorate.
The approved sports for the tournament, the schedule of competitions and their venues, technical, logistical, media and administrative aspects, organizational regulations, and other items were discussed.
The Board of Directors also approved the recommendation to assign Ahmed bin Faisal Al Jahdhami as Director of the Omani Sports Mission that will participate in the tournament, with the approval of the mission administrators, in addition to reviewing the developments of the Omani Olympic Museum development project and approving the logo that represents and reflects the Olympic values and the spirit of fair competition.
