Beirut: Represented by the Ministry of Social Development, the Sultanate of Oman today took part in tasks of the 14th session of the Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA), held at the United Nations office in Beirut.
Oman’s delegation was headed by Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development.
The meeting looked into the activities of the committee of experts on reforming social protection, as well as means of boosting cooperation and exchanging expertise at the regional level.
The meeting also took note of the progress made in the field of social development, the recommendations issued by ESCWA’s social committee at its thirteenth session and the mission of the working group tasked with the sector of persons with disabilities.
The meeting touched on the issue of inequality in the Arab region, notably in employment opportunities, in addition to initiatives to promote social and economic equality. -ONA
