Oman participates in Fifth Arab Water Conference in Riyadh

Riyadh: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, participated today in the Fifth Arab Water Conference, under the slogan “Sustainable Development in the Arab Region,” in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh and will last for two days.

The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman was represented at the meeting by His Excellency Engineer Ali bin Muhammad Al-Abri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources for Water Resources, and future visions for achieving sustainable Arab water security were discussed and discussed, in addition to enhancing policies of integration and interconnection in the management of the water, agriculture, energy and other sectors, and linking them to technology. And innovation.

The conference aimed to strengthen the foundations and policies of governance and support capacity-building, research and leadership programmes, with a focus on modern technologies and purposeful planning to adapt to climate change. The conference also comes in line with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia investing heavily in the water sector to meet the growing population, industrial needs, and agricultural irrigation.

The conference also provides industry insights, communications, and collaboration opportunities to move water projects forward, with US$104.7 billion approved for 3,300 development projects. During the conference, the items that were submitted by the Technical Scientific Advisory Committee of the Arab Water Council at its 22nd meeting, which was held in the city of Riyadh during the period from 19 to 21 November 2023, were also discussed.

His Excellency the Engineer, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources for Water Resources, also represented the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman at the 15h session of the Arab Ministerial Conference on Water, which was held in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in which the Sultanate’s experience regarding the world heritage aflaj listed in UNESCO was presented.

The conference brought together an elite group of the most prominent experts and specialists in the field of water, in addition to Their Excellencies the Ministers of Water, Water Resources and Irrigation in the Arab countries. And delegations from Arab countries and Arab, regional and international partner organizations.
