Oman National Athletics Team Tops Medal Achievements at Gulf Games
Doha: The Oman national athletics team concluded its participation in the 4th Gulf Games currently being held in Doha, Qatar, by winning two additional gold medals, raising the Sultanate of Oman’s total medal tally in the tournament to 24 medals.
The two gold medals were secured by runner Ali bin Anwar Al Balushi in the 200-metre race and athlete Alia bint Faiq Al Mughairiya in the high jump event.
The athletics team recorded the highest medal tally among Omani teams participating in the Games, winning a total of 11 medals, including 7 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Athlete Mazoon Al Alawi also achieved a new Omani record in the long jump competition after recording a distance of 5.72 metres.
The results reflect the advanced technical level of the athletes and the efforts made by the technical and administrative staff during the preparation stages ahead of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Oman national shooting team will continue its participation tomorrow in the 10-metre pistol competitions for men and women in both individual and team categories.
The shooting team has so far won three medals, including two silver medals and one bronze medal.
In volleyball, the Oman national team will conclude its participation tomorrow with a match against the UAE team at the Women’s Sports Hall in Aspire Zone, Doha.
