Oman Sail Competes in 2026 29er European Championship at Lake Garda
Muscat: Oman Sail’s High Performance Team will head to Lake Garda in Italy to participate in the 2026 European Cup 29er Championship, set to begin on 1 May.
The event will feature 71 teams competing across multiple categories, including overall, senior, under-19 and under-17, in one of Europe’s leading sailing competitions.
Oman will be represented by two teams comprising sailors Tamim bin Sulaiman Al Balushi and Saleh bin Ali Al Balushi, alongside Saud bin Talib Al Shaqsi and Firas bin Haitham Al Nabhani.
The championship will span three days, with 12 races, including qualifying rounds and a final medal race.
The participation forms part of a national programme to develop young sailing talent and prepare for upcoming international events, including the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
The team recently completed a training camp in La Baule, France, as part of its preparations. It is accompanied by French coach Fabrice Jeunet and assistant coach Zakaria bin Suleiman Al-Wahabi.
Hashim bin Hamad Al Rashdi, head coach at Oman Sail, said the participation provides valuable experience against strong international competitors and supports the team’s long-term development goals.
