Oman Unveils National Cybersecurity Strategy for 2026–2030

Muscat: The National Cybersecurity Strategy 2026–2030 establishes a national framework for strengthening Oman’s cyber resilience, protecting national interests, ensuring the continuity of essential services and creating a secure digital environment that supports innovation and the digital economy.

The strategy was prepared by the Electronic Defense Center in partnership with government and private-sector entities, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Its vision is to safeguard Oman’s national interests in cyberspace, while its mission is built around trusted governance, societal awareness, qualified national capabilities, resilient infrastructure, cross-border partnerships and a thriving cybersecurity economy.

The strategy is based on five main pillars: cybersecurity governance, cyber resilience, capacity building and awareness, cyber cooperation, and the cyber economy.

It also adopts several principles, including an integrated government approach, sustainable capacity development, practical national initiatives, cyber foresight, effective local partnerships, international cooperation, resilience and adaptability.

Key priorities include strengthening cybersecurity governance, enhancing public-private sector cooperation, updating legislation, improving national readiness to respond to cyber threats, developing specialized national capabilities and expanding investment opportunities in the cybersecurity sector.

The Electronic Defense Center will oversee implementation of the strategy throughout the 2026–2030 period, with periodic reviews to ensure that its objectives remain aligned with emerging cyber threats and technological developments.

Established under Royal Decree No. 64/2020, the Electronic Defense Center serves as Oman’s competent authority for electronic defense and is responsible for strengthening national cybersecurity and protecting vital interests in cyberspace.

The Center coordinates national efforts to address cyber threats, supports the protection of digital infrastructure and essential services, develops national cybersecurity and cyber-defense strategies, and prepares relevant policies, regulatory frameworks and plans in coordination with concerned authorities.

It also works to strengthen national readiness, develop cybersecurity capabilities and expand local, regional and international cooperation, reinforcing Oman’s efforts to build a secure, resilient and trusted digital environment.
