Omani Taekwondo Athlete Al Muhannad Wins Gold at European Grand Prix

Rising Omani Taekwondo Star Achieves Global Rankings

Muscat: Al Muhannad bin Tawfiq Al Balushi, a member of the Omani National Taekwondo Team, has emerged as one of the Sultanate of Oman’s most promising athletes, following a series of outstanding performances in recent international championships.

Al Muhannad achieved top results at several global tournaments, most notably winning a gold medal at the European Taekwondo Grand Prix Final 2025, held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, marking a significant milestone in his sporting career and reflecting his growing international presence.

In a statement to Oman News Agency, Al Muhannad explained that 2026 represents a foundational phase in his career, as he transitions for the first time to the senior (general) category. He noted that he will initially compete in the Under-54 kg weight class, with plans to gradually move to the Under-58 kg category, based on evaluations by the technical staff and his physical readiness.

He added that among his most notable achievements in 2025 was winning a silver medal at the Qatar International Taekwondo Championship (Qatar Open), in addition to securing the gold medal at the European Taekwondo Grand Prix Final, an accomplishment that ranked among the most prominent achievements of the Omani national team in the youth category.

Al Muhannad also achieved advanced positions in the global rankings, placing fifth worldwide in the Under-45 kg category and eighth worldwide in the Under-48 kg category, confirming his sustained presence in the international ranking system and highlighting his competitive potential at the global level.
