Muscat (ONA): The general import price index in the Sultanate of Oman recorded an increase of 5.8% during the first quarter of 2026, compared with the corresponding quarter of 2025, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The statistics showed that the miscellaneous manufactured articles group recorded the highest increase, rising by 11.2%, followed by the machinery and transport equipment group at 9.2%, and the beverages and tobacco group at 7.8%.
The animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes group also rose by 4.1%, while chemicals and related products increased by 1.7%. The food and live animals group recorded a rise of 1.3%. In contrast, some groups recorded declines, led by crude materials, inedible, except fuels, which fell by 14.6%, followed by mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, down by 10.7%, and manufactured goods classified chiefly by material, which decreased by 2.5%. On a quarterly comparison basis, the general import price index rose by 0.5% compared with the fourth quarter of 2025.
This increase was driven by a 26.1% rise in the prices of the mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials group, followed by the beverages and tobacco group at 4.0%, and the machinery and transport equipment group at 2.2%.
The food and live animals group also increased by 0.2%. In contrast, prices of the miscellaneous manufactured articles group declined by 11.7%, while animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes fell by 7.8%. Chemicals and related products decreased by 4.8%, crude materials, inedible, except fuels, declined by 4.0%, and manufactured goods classified chiefly by material fell by 1.5%.
