    Oman Road Network Expands to More Than 45,000 Kilometres

    Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s road network continued to expand over the past five years, with the total length of paved roads increasing from 40,546 kilometres in 2021 to 45,659 kilometres by the end of 2025, according to data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

    The 2026 Statistical Yearbook showed that single-lane roads accounted for 41,478 kilometres, while dual-lane roads reached 4,182 kilometres. The total length of asphalted roads stood at 44,079 kilometres by the end of 2025.

    At the governorate level, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate recorded the largest share of paved roads at 480 kilometres, followed by Muscat Governorate with 425 kilometres and Al Dhahirah Governorate with 120 kilometres.

    In terms of single roads, Dhofar Governorate ranked first with 383 kilometres, followed by North Al Sharqiyah Governorate with 263 kilometres and South Al Batinah Governorate with 260 kilometres.

    The statistics also showed continued growth in the number of driving licences issued in Oman.

    The total number of new and renewed driving licences reached approximately 527,830 by the end of 2025, compared with 500,738 in 2024 and 338,990 in 2021.

    The data showed that new vehicle driving licences numbered 136,491, while 391,339 renewed licences. The total number of driving licences issued to Omani nationals, both new and renewed, reached 227,718, compared to 300,112 licences issued to expatriates.
