Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has issued an “executive programme for artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies”, which constitutes one of the pillars of the National Digital Economy Programme.
The programme sets standards for AI and advanced technologies in the Sultanate of Oman, to encourage adoption and localization of the same after consulting similar experiences in other countries.
The programme seeks to establish partnerships and a system of cooperation and integration with public, private and academic institutions, entrepreneurs and civil society institutions.
The step aims to unify efforts in the field of AI and advanced technologies and encourage their use in basic sectors such as education, health, social care, defense and security, besides improving the quality of government services.
The programme also aims to contribute to motivating various sectors, localizing relevant industries, supporting the modernization of the education system, creating a regulatory environment and reviewing standards in line with the requirements of AI and advanced technologies in Oman.
The programme targets economic diversification sectors defined within the 10th Five Year Plan and Oman Vision 2040, while at the same time accelerating the introduction of advanced technologies in the development and economic sectors.
