    • On behalf of HM The Sultan, HH Sayyid Shihab Heads Oman’s Delegation at Cairo Summit for Peace

    Cairo: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs chaired the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation at Cairo Summit for Peace, which was held in the New Administrative Capital of Egypt today.

    HH Sayyid Shihab delivered a speech during which he conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to heads of delegations taking part in Cairo Summit for Peace, along with His Majesty the Sultan’s sincere wishes of success.

    HH Sayyid Shihab said that Oman strongly rejects Israel’s military escalation against Gaza Strip and urges the international community to shoulder its responsibilities for the termination of this war. Oman exhorts the international community to resort to rational logic in achieving the desired goals of comprehensive and fair peace, based on the International Law, he added.

    HH Sayyid Shihab reaffirmed that the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has accorded attention to backing regional and international efforts. He pointed out that Oman voiced its keenness (on rapid action) to immediately put an end to the carnage, protect civilians and secure access to humanitarian assistance, notably urgent medical relief, food, electricity, water and fuel supplies to the stricken population in Gaza Strip.

    HH Sayyid Shihab said that the world is in great need for the instant application of principles and rules of the International Law and the humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territories. “It is time for the world to implement United Nations resolutions on the Palestinian cause, do justice to the Palestinians, alleviate their continuous suffering and grant them the right to establish their own Palestinian State, with Al Quds Al Sharqiya (East Jerusalem) as its capital, based on the 1967 borders, the Arab Peace Initiative and resolutions of the Security Council and the UN general assembly,” said HH Sayyid Shihab.

    It is worth mentioning that the peace summit laid emphasis on discussing the ongoing conflict between the Palestinians and the Israeli occupation army and discussing the future of the Palestinian cause and the peace process.

    It aimed at contributing to stopping the ongoing escalation in Gaza Strip and addressing the deteriorating humanitarian situation.

    As many as 31 countries and international organizations such as the United Nations, the League of Arab States, the African Union and the European Union took part in the summit. – ONA
