Omani CFO Mentoring Program Launches in Muscat with Participation of Over 60 Finance Professionals

Muscat:  The new edition of the “Omani CFO Mentoring Program” began today in Muscat, jointly organised by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the Oman Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), with the participation of more than 60 accounting and finance professionals from various institutions.

The programme aims to enhance participants’ financial knowledge and leadership capabilities while preparing a new generation of financial leaders equipped with the skills and strategic competencies needed to improve financial performance and support institutional growth and sustainability.

Running for eight weeks, with one day of training each Saturday, the programme covers a range of financial and administrative areas, including the overall financial position of institutions, financial, accounting and legal systems, resource management, operations, finance and risk management, as well as the preparation of budgets and strategic business plans.

The programme also focuses on enabling participants to move from the traditional concept of financial management towards strategic financial leadership through developing skills in analysis, planning and decision-making, while strengthening their understanding of the relationship between financial and operational performance.

Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OCCI, said that the launch of the new edition reflects the Chamber’s commitment to investing in national competencies and enhancing their readiness.

He noted that developing the capabilities of financial leaders is an important pillar in improving institutional efficiency and strengthening the ability of organisations to respond to rapid economic changes.

Al Rawas added that the programme’s continuity since its launch reflects the Chamber’s commitment to establishing a sustainable pathway for developing national financial competencies and strengthening partnerships with professional institutions and international expertise.

He said that such efforts contribute to preparing leaders capable of keeping pace with the requirements of the business environment, supporting private-sector competitiveness and contributing effectively to economic growth.

Dr. Abdullah bin Masoud Al Harthi, Member of the OCCI Board of Directors and Chairman of the Programme’s Supervisory Committee, said that the programme represents one of the Chamber’s qualitative initiatives in national capacity building.

He explained that it seeks to develop the financial skills of promising Omani professionals in accounting and financial management, provide opportunities for career development, and enhance the efficiency of workers in the field so they can assume more effective roles within institutions and make financial decisions based on analysis, planning and specialised knowledge.

Al Harthi noted that the programme goes beyond traditional accounting practices by focusing on developing financial leaders’ capabilities in addressing various institutional challenges, including improving revenue and expenditure management, controlling costs, enhancing resource utilisation, managing risks, preparing budgets and linking financial decisions with institutional strategic plans.

He stressed that developing financial leaders is an essential element in supporting projects and institutions, particularly amid the rapid developments taking place in the economy.

Sangeetha Sureshkumar, President of the Institute of Chartered Certified Accountants (ICC) Muscat branch, said during the opening session that the finance profession is undergoing significant transformation driven by technology, sustainability and changing stakeholder expectations.

She added that the programme brings together industry leaders and ambitious executives to promote professional excellence and prepare the next generation of chief financial officers to lead their organisations with a clear and confident vision.
