PSG Survive Late Scare to Beat Metz
Paris: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) climbed to the top of the French Ligue 1 standings after securing a hard-fought 3–2 away victory over Metz, despite missing several key first-team players.
With Ousmane Dembélé, Achraf Hakimi, and captain Marquinhos sidelined through injury, PSG head coach Luis Enrique relied heavily on young academy talents. The decision proved successful, as teenage wingers Ibrahim Mbaye (17) and Quentin Ndjantou (18) played a pivotal role in the match.
PSG opened the scoring through Gonçalo Ramos, before Mbaye surged down the flank and delivered a low cross that was finished by Ndjantou with a sliding effort, marking the youngster’s first senior goal and doubling the visitors’ lead.
Metz responded strongly, pulling a goal back just before halftime through a long-range strike by Jessy Deminguet, which reduced the deficit and revived the contest.
PSG restored their two-goal advantage shortly after the hour mark when substitute Désiré Doué, returning from a hamstring injury, calmly converted to make it 3–1.
The home side mounted late pressure after Giorgi Tsitaishvili fired a spectacular shot into the top corner in the 81st minute. However, PSG’s reshuffled defence held firm in the closing stages to secure all three points.
The win lifts PSG temporarily to the top of the Ligue 1 table, although Lens could reclaim first place with a victory over Nice later today. Metz, despite a spirited performance, remain at the bottom of the standings.
