Moscow: Russian experts at the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” have developed an innovative technology for producing “high-voltage modified lithium cobaltate,” a key cathode material used in high-capacity batteries.
The new material features an advanced chemical composition and crystalline structure that allows batteries to operate at higher charging voltages and increases energy capacity by more than 15 percent compared to conventional technologies, while maintaining stability during repeated charging and discharging cycles.
According to Rosatom, the material is designed for use in portable electronic devices, power tools, and advanced aviation and aerospace applications that require high performance and extended operating periods without frequent recharging.
Alexander Seleznev, Acting Director General of Rusatom Chemical, said the innovation represents an important step towards localizing battery chemistry material production and reducing reliance on imports.
He added that experimental models are currently undergoing certification procedures and evaluation by commercial partners.
Through this initiative, Russia aims to establish an integrated lithium product supply chain, beginning with raw material extraction and extending to manufacturing and battery recycling.
