Oman Trials Self-Driving Electric Vehicle at Salalah Airport
Salalah: Salalah Airport conducted an operational trial of a self-driving (autonomous) electric vehicle in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
The trial was attended by Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, along with officials from Oman Airports.
Following the successful completion of the trials, the autonomous electric vehicles are scheduled to be introduced for operational use at Salalah Airport in 2027.
Oman Airports said the initiative forms part of its efforts to adopt smart and sustainable mobility solutions and explore modern technologies and their potential applications within the airport environment.
The autonomous vehicles are expected to enhance the efficiency of delivery operations, improve the speed and reliability of services, reduce operating costs and emissions, and strengthen Oman’s position as an attractive environment for testing and deploying smart and sustainable transport technologies.
