SpaceX Launches Cygnus XL Cargo Mission to ISS

Washington:  SpaceX successfully launched the Cygnus XL cargo spacecraft aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, carrying more than five tons of supplies and equipment to the International Space Station (ISS).

The mission, designated NG-24, marks the twenty-fourth cargo flight of its kind, aimed at supporting astronauts aboard the orbiting laboratory.

The spacecraft is scheduled to arrive at the ISS tomorrow (Monday), where it will be captured using the station’s robotic arm.

The payload includes equipment to support a range of scientific experiments, including upgrades to NASA’s Cold Atom Laboratory, research on stem cells, and studies related to quantum computing in microgravity.

Cygnus XL is expected to remain docked at the station for several months before being loaded with waste and safely disposed of during re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean.

The spacecraft is approximately 20 percent larger than previous versions, with a carrying capacity of about 4,990 kilograms of cargo.
