Thumrait Summer Camel Racing Competitions Conclude

Thumrait: The third edition of the Thumrait Summer Camel Racing Competition for Weanlings 2026 concluded today in the Wilayat of Thumrait in Dhofar Governorate, drawing a large turnout of camel owners and breeders.

Organized by the Office of the Wali of Thumrait, the competition featured eight rounds, including five competitive rounds for the Al-Jatha’im category over two kilometers, one round for the Al-Sa’oub category over 1.5 kilometers, and two rounds for the Abkar category over three kilometers.

The early rounds saw strong performances across the young camel categories. “Nasiya,” owned by Mohammed bin Salem Al Kathiri, secured first place in the first round for young female camels, while “Shaheen,” owned by Sultan bin Salem Al Kathiri, won the second round.

“Al-Shahaniya,” owned by Ali bin Salim Al-Awaisi, took first place in the third round for young female camels, while his camel “Shaheen” also won the fourth round in the young male category. “Al-Duktura,” owned by Mohammed bin Salem Musan, secured first place in the fifth round for young female camels.

The final rounds witnessed intense competition, with “Al Joker,” owned by Noah bin Muslim Nafel, winning the main Al-Jaadan round, which featured the silver sword and a car as prizes.

In the Al-Sa’oub Abkar round, designated for the Shalfah, “Al-Shahaniyah,” owned by Ghaith bin Salem Al-Kathiri, claimed first place.

In the main Abkar race, featuring the golden sword and a car, “Ghayam,” owned by Wasit bin Suhail Al Kathiri, secured the top position.

At the conclusion of the event, HH Ahmed bin Hamad Al Maawali, Governor of Thumrait, honored the winners and the supporting and sponsoring organizations.
