UAE Bans Non-Citizens from Wearing National Dress in Social Media Ads

Muscat: Companies in the #UAE must hire an Emirati citizen to publish ads on social media that contain the country’s national dress or cultural symbols, according to a new decision issued by the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

The step follows a similar decision made recently to ban non-citizens from speaking the local dialect in the media. Local authorities say that these measures aim to “protect the national identity” and present content that reflects the country’s cultural values.
