UK Fuel Prices Hit Two-Year High as Diesel Surges 30 Percent

London: Fuel prices in the United Kingdom have risen to their highest levels in two years, driven by ongoing developments in the Middle East, with diesel prices recording a sharp increase since the escalation began.

Data indicate that diesel prices have surged by about 30 percent, reaching an average of 185.23 pence per litre, while petrol prices rose by 16 percent to 154.45 pence per litre.

Some filling stations recorded significantly higher prices, with one station in London charging 299.9 pence per litre of petrol. Other stations across the country reported diesel prices nearing £2 per litre.

The increase coincides with heightened demand during the Easter holiday period, as motorists rushed to refuel.

Simon Williams, Head of Policy at the RAC, stated that fuel prices witnessed an unprecedented rise during March, marking the fastest monthly increase on record. He added that the current surge exceeds the increases recorded following the outbreak of the Ukraine war.
