UN Chief Guterres welcomes ceasefire between India and Pakistan

New York: UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan on Saturday.

Guterres stated, according to a statement issued in his name, that the agreement is “a positive step towards ending the current hostilities and easing tensions,” expressing his hope that the agreement will contribute to achieving lasting peace and create a conducive environment for addressing the broader, ongoing issues between the two countries.

Guterres said the United Nations stands ready to support efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
