UN Welcomes US-Iran Ceasefire, Urges Lasting Peace

New York: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In a statement, Guterres called on all parties to respect the agreement and work towards achieving lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.

He stressed the urgent need to end hostilities to protect civilians and reduce human suffering.

The Secretary-General also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Pakistan and other countries that contributed to facilitating the ceasefire.

He noted that his personal envoy, Jean Arnault, is currently in the region to support ongoing efforts aimed at achieving broader peace.
