US-China Trade Talks Begin Ahead of Trump-Xi Summit in Beijing

Seoul; Trade negotiations between the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China began today in the Republic of Korea ahead of the summit between the leaders of the two countries scheduled to take place later this week in Beijing.

China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held talks with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng at Incheon International Airport to discuss a number of economic and trade issues of mutual interest.

The discussions come ahead of the meeting scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Beijing between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

US officials expect the summit to result in agreements related to facilitating trade and mutual investment between the world’s two largest economies, in addition to anticipated Chinese announcements regarding purchases of Boeing commercial aircraft, agricultural products and American energy resources.

Meanwhile, China seeks through the talks to secure an easing of US restrictions on advanced semiconductor exports and has expressed concern over proposed American legislation aimed at restricting the export of key electronic chip manufacturing equipment to Chinese markets.
