World Snooker Championships Officially Kick Off in Muscat

23 Countries Compete as World Snooker Championships Begin in Muscat

Muscat: The official competitions of the World Snooker Team and Individual Championships kicked off this evening at the Active Oman Center of the Oman Automobile Association. The Sultanate of Oman is hosting the event from 15 to 23 November, with the participation of 23 countries representing various continents, along with an elite lineup of top international and local snooker players.

The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of HH Dr. Kamil bin Fahd Al Said, in the presence of Mubarak Al Khayarin, President of the International Billiards and Snooker Federation.

In his address, Khalid bin Khalfan Al Subhi, Chairman of the Omani Billiards and Snooker Committee, affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman has developed advanced infrastructure, qualified national talent, and growing public interest—elements that collectively enable the country to host major global sporting events.

The ceremony featured an exhibition match between promising Omani player Muslim Al Masahli and Qatar national team star Ali Al Obaidli, which received strong audience engagement. A visual presentation was also screened, highlighting the history and development of snooker in Oman and showcasing the Committee’s efforts in promoting the sport and hosting this world championship for the first time.

HH Dr. Kamil bin Fahd Al Said then gave the official signal to launch the tournament, marking the start of the championship matches.
