YouTube Rolls Out New Features to Reduce Ads in Live Streams
Washington: YouTube has announced a new update aimed at improving the live streaming experience by limiting advertisements during moments of high viewer interaction, in a move designed to maintain engagement between audiences and content creators.
The platform, owned by Google, said in an official blog post that advertisements will be automatically paused when spikes in live chat activity are detected, such as increased messaging or heightened audience participation.
The update seeks to support creators in maintaining uninterrupted broadcast flow, particularly during key moments that attract strong viewer engagement.
YouTube also indicated that users who utilize features such as Super Chat, Super Stickers and digital gifts will receive a temporary ad-free viewing period immediately after completing their transactions.
As part of broader enhancements, the platform announced the expansion of gifting tools to additional markets, including Canada, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand, supporting wider monetization opportunities for creators.
New features also include the ability for users to send GIFs during horizontal live broadcasts on smartphones, as well as enabling creators to stream simultaneously in both vertical and horizontal formats while maintaining a unified live chat experience.
The update comes amid growing consumption of live streaming content on large screens. YouTube noted that more than 30 percent of live streaming watch time in the United States during 2025 occurred via internet-connected televisions.
The move follows a recent increase in YouTube Premium subscription prices in the United States, reflecting ongoing efforts to balance user experience with revenue growth.
