117 Companies Benefit from Civil Aviation Authority Local Content Programmes

Muscat; The number of companies benefiting from contracts and purchases under the local content programmes of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has reached around 117 companies, while small and medium enterprises (SMEs) accounted for 39% of the total contracts and purchases.

The figures reflect the growing contribution of SMEs to supporting the national economy and strengthening the participation of the private sector in the civil aviation sector.

Hussain bin Salem Al Rahbi, Director General of Support Services at the CAA, said that the Authority is working to establish local content as a key pillar for supporting the national economy and enhancing sustainability by empowering national companies and increasing their participation in projects and services related to civil aviation.

In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), Al Rahbi said the increase in the number of companies benefiting from contracts and purchases demonstrates the effectiveness of the policies and initiatives adopted by the Authority to promote local content.

He explained that the Authority gives priority to enhancing the participation of the national private sector by providing fair and competitive opportunities, incorporating local content requirements into contracts and procurement processes, and supporting knowledge transfer and the development of national capabilities.

He added that these efforts contribute to improving the efficiency of the civil aviation sector and raising the quality of services in line with national development objectives and efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of the Omani economy.

The Authority’s local content policies support the growth and sustainability of national companies, create employment opportunities for citizens, facilitate the transfer of knowledge and modern technologies, strengthen local supply chains and reduce reliance on external markets.

The CAA also promotes the participation of SMEs, encourages the use of locally produced goods and services where they meet required quality standards, and considers the employment and development of national talent among the criteria used to evaluate companies.

The Authority provides training and development programmes, facilitates registration and qualification procedures, improves access to tender and project information, allows appropriate implementation periods and strengthens communication with suppliers.

It also encourages partnerships between Omani companies and international counterparts as part of efforts to develop local capabilities and strengthen national supply chains.

The Authority affirmed its continued commitment to implementing policies and initiatives that support local content and strengthen effective partnerships with the private sector.
