Diane Parry Defeats Elise Mertens to Claim First WTA Singles Title

Diane Parry Wins Maiden WTA Title at Monterrey Open

Monterrey: France’s Diane Parry secured her first WTA singles title after defeating second-seeded Belgian Elise Mertens 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 in the final of the Monterrey Open in Mexico.

Parry, who used the WTA 500-level tournament as part of her preparations for the US Open, made a strong start to the final, taking a 4-1 lead in the opening set.

Mertens, 30, fought back to level the score, but Parry regained control by winning the following game before breaking her opponent’s serve to close out the set 6-4.

The Belgian responded strongly in the second set, winning six consecutive games and breaking Parry’s serve three times. Parry took a medical timeout while trailing 5-0 but returned to continue the match.

The Frenchwoman regained her momentum in the decisive set, building a 5-1 advantage. Mertens then mounted another comeback, winning two consecutive games, but Parry held her nerve to close out the set 6-3.

Parry completed the victory in just over two and a half hours, securing her maiden WTA singles title and completing a strong final test ahead of the US Open.
