Oman Cuts Cardiac Surgery Supply Procurement Time to 48 Hours Through Amana Platform

Muscat : The Projects, Tenders and Local Content Authority, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, today launched a new electronic feature on the “Amana” digital platform to shorten the procurement cycle for cardiac surgery supplies to between 24 and 48 hours.

The feature, introduced through the platform’s order management system, is intended to ensure the timely availability of cardiology and cardiac surgery supplies for the National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery at the Royal Hospital.

The launch ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.

Eng. Thamer bin Saeed Al Kathiri, representative of the General Directorate of Government Procurement at the Projects, Tenders and Local Content Authority, said the initiative represents an example of institutional cooperation between government entities and aims to improve public-spending efficiency, enhance healthcare services and strengthen the sustainability of medical supply chains.

He explained that integrating framework contracts with the order management system has significantly reduced the time required to process orders. Under previous procedures, procurement could take between 45 and 120 days, whereas the new system reduces the cycle to 24–48 hours.

The system also allows recurring requirements to be fulfilled without launching a new tender for every individual order, while maintaining agreed prices and contractual conditions and reducing administrative paperwork.

The platform currently includes 229 essential cardiac surgery products covered by unified framework contracts with 23 local suppliers, including leading companies and brands. This provides the National Centre with greater flexibility and continuity in securing specialised medical supplies.

Dr. Hamoud bin Nasr Al Kindi, Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the National Centre for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery at the Royal Hospital, said the initiative was developed in response to the rapid advancement of the healthcare sector, particularly in cardiology and cardiac surgery.

He explained that the project aims to establish a smart and integrated system for managing surgical supplies, materials and related supply chains.

Dr. Al Kindi said the initiative represents a significant development in healthcare procurement by reducing procedures, accelerating fulfilment of medical requirements and providing an accurate database to support future planning and budget preparation.

The project forms part of Oman’s efforts to adopt digital solutions in government procurement and transition from traditional procedures to an integrated digital environment focused on efficiency, transparency and continuity of supply.
