Rabat: Real Madrid sealed their fifth Club World Cup in style in Morocco, blowing past Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal 5-3 featuring goals from Vinicius Jr, Fede Valverde and Karim Benzema.
Completes a spectacular century of trophies for Los Blancos, the 100th trophy in their history in a record that includes 35 Spanish LaLiga Santanders, 19 Copa del Reys and 14 UEFA Champions Leagues.
They’ll have the chance to add three more to that collection this season, but for now they can celebrate being champions of the world after a comprehensive victory over Al Hilal.
The Saudi club won the AFC Champions League in 2021 and beat Wydad Casablanca and Flamengo on their way to the final, but they were no match for the European champions.
However, they did give Real Madrid a scare with a goal in the 79th minute and had a shot at an open goal before added time, but couldn’t close the gap any further and Los Blancos retained their two-goal lead.
Vinicius opened the scoring after some cute interplay with Benzema and Valverde, the Frenchman put Vinicius through and he fired under Abdullah Al-Mayouf who couldn’t get enough behind it to stop the ball bouncing into the roof of the net, the Spanish MARCA newspaper reported.
The pair combined again for the pick of the goals, Real Madrid’s third, when Vinicius boomeranged a low cross the swerved back towards Benzema arriving at the back post, who turned it into the net with his first touch. In between, Valverde had doubled his team’s lead after some poor clearance work by Al Hilal, who hit back to make it 2-1 through Moussa Marega in the 26th minute.
But it was a second-half blitz that really sealed the win for Real Madrid, as they scored three goals in 15 minutes to finish off the Saudi team, who replied with a Luciano Vietto brace but could never truly threaten to cause the upset.
