China’s animated film Ne Zha 2 has surpassed Disney’s Inside Out 2 to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time, earning over 12.3 billion yuan ($1.7 billion), according to state media. Released last month, the fantasy epic has also become China’s biggest box-office hit.
The film follows a rebellious young deity who uses his powers to fight enemies after his village is destroyed. It was released overseas this month, with hopes for international success, building on the success of the original Ne Zha in 2019.
