European Stocks Remain Stable as Technology Shares Advance

Brussels: European stock markets traded largely stable today as investors assessed the impact of escalating tensions in the Middle East while technology shares continued to benefit from optimism surrounding the artificial intelligence sector.

Technology stocks rose 1.4 percent, supported by a strong performance from ASML, whose shares climbed 6 percent after the semiconductor equipment manufacturer raised its financial outlook for 2026, reinforcing investor confidence in continued demand for AI-related technologies.

The positive sentiment also lifted other semiconductor-related companies, with shares of ASM and Soitec each gaining more than 2 percent.

Meanwhile, Germany’s benchmark stock index underperformed regional markets, declining by around 1 percent, weighed down by a 2 percent drop in shares of software company SAP.

Other European software firms also traded lower, with Dassault Systèmes and Capgemini each falling by more than 1 percent.

Investors continued to monitor geopolitical developments in the Middle East alongside corporate earnings and technology sector performance, which remained the primary drivers of market sentiment.
