Oman Athletics Selects 65 Girls for New Training Center in Muscat
Muscat: The Oman Athletics Federation has activated the Girls’ Athlete Preparation Center in Muscat Governorate as part of efforts to support female participation in sports and develop competitive capabilities.
The center serves as an integrated training platform aimed at identifying and nurturing promising talents, while enhancing their readiness for local and international competitions. The initiative also seeks to strengthen the presence of Omani female athletes and build a sustainable base for women’s athletics.
Noura bint Salem Al Balushi, Board Member of the Oman Athletics Federation and Supervisor of the center, said that the initiative reflects the federation’s vision of preparing a competitive generation of female athletes.
She noted that the programme includes a comprehensive training plan covering technical, physical and psychological aspects, within an environment designed to support athletes’ development.
Al Balushi added that the activation follows a two-phase selection process involving government and private schools in Muscat Governorate. The first phase saw the selection of 50 students from 12 schools, while the second phase shortlisted 15 students from 4 schools based on specialized physical and skill assessments.
The selected athletes are currently undergoing training under the supervision of Omani coach Shanoona Al Habsi.
