Oman Defeats Qatar 3-2 in Thrilling Start to Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship 2026
Ahmedabad: Oman’s national volleyball team began its campaign in the Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship 2026 with a 3-2 victory over Qatar in the opening match of the tournament, which commenced today in Ahmedabad, India, and will continue until June 28.
The national team delivered a strong comeback performance after losing the first two sets 19-25 and 21-25. Oman then responded by winning the next three sets 27-25, 25-22 and 15-13 to secure a valuable opening victory.
The result reflects the team’s determination and the technical and physical preparation of the players as they compete in one of Asia’s leading volleyball tournaments.
Oman will face Thailand on Monday before taking on South Korea on Thursday. The team will conclude its group-stage campaign against Indonesia on Friday as part of Group B competition.
The national team squad includes Mohammed bin Salem Al-Muqbali, Saleh bin Rashid Al-Jalbubi, Saud bin Rashid Al-Maamari, Hamad bin Khamis Al-Maamari, Osama bin Sulaiman Al-Maamari, Falah bin Salim Al-Jaradi, Mutasim bin Mubarak Al-Harthi, Younis bin Salem Al-Amri, Adam bin Jamil Al-Jaradi, Mahmoud bin Khalifa Al-Saadi, Ismail bin Rashid Al-Hadidi, Majid bin Abdullah Al-Shibli, Abdullah bin Salem Al-Muqbali and Mohammed bin Eid Al-Saifi.
The tournament draw placed Oman in Group B alongside Qatar, South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia, while Group A includes Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei, Bahrain, Australia, New Zealand and hosts India.
The championship is being held under a single round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals, while the remaining teams will compete in classification matches.
