Oman Film Society celebrates the International Cinema Day

Muscat: The Oman Film and Theater Association celebrated today the International Cinema Day, which falls on the 28th of December every year.

The association’s participation in the celebration of this day stems from its role in rooting cinematic interest among its members and those working in the field of cinema and those interested in it.

The ceremony included the screening of the movie “The Ship Sultana” directed by Dr. Khaled bin Abdul Rahim Al-Zadjali, the Iranian movie “Saralish” by director Yasser Ahmadi, and the movie “Asabaa” by director and cinematographer Abdullah Habib.

Dr. Humaid bin Saeed Al-Amiri, President of the Omani Society for Cinema and Theater, said: Filmmakers celebrate on this day the anniversary of the screening of the first cinematic film that was shown to the public in the world. And feelings that we can’t control.

For his part, Thabet bin Khamis said in the speech of the filmmakers: “The cinematic viewing is not a pure reality, and therefore it is not the reality, and if we are governed by reality, why are we also governed by the tendency to try to escape from it?”, Pointing out that films do not compete with reality because it is a world that exists in itself. It inspires us with ideas, moves our feelings, and arranges dates for us with beauty.”

He explained: “Mostly, films are promoted as being adapted from real events, and we rarely realize how many realistic events are taken from films, which led to the overlapping of realistic awareness with cinematic awareness in a way that is difficult to deny, and the language of the cinematic image became part of the realistic scene, and reality became closer to a movie that we are trying to We make it what we live.”

Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Ajmi, Secretary of the Omani Society for Cinema and Theater, emphasized that the association’s celebration of World Cinema Day comes from the belief in the importance of cinema and the roles it plays in many aspects of life, as it constitutes one of the cultural aspects in the Sultanate of Oman.

He referred to the announcement of the opening of competition in the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature at its tenth session in the arts branch for the field of film directing, due to its importance and appreciation among a large number of Omani youth.
