Oman Youth Handball Team Eyes World Championship Qualification
Muscat: Oman national youth handball team continues its intensive daily training programme at the Oman Club sports hall in preparation for the 19th Asian Men’s Youth Handball Championship, scheduled to be held in Chuzhou, People’s Republic of China, from 15 to 26 July 2026.
The tournament serves as a qualification event for the 26th IHF Men’s Junior World Championship (Under-21), which will take place in North Macedonia from 23 June to 4 July 2027.
The national team is conducting its preparations under the supervision of national coach Yahya Al Maashari, with training sessions focused on raising players’ physical and technical readiness levels, in addition to implementing tactical and technical plans ahead of the continental competition.
According to the tournament draw, Oman was placed in Group A alongside host nation China, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong.
Group B includes Japan, South Korea, Iran, Kuwait, Qatar, India and the UAE.
The current training camp includes 22 players: Essam bin Asim Al Balushi, Saeed bin Mohammed Al Hasani, Ghassan bin Najib Al Maashari, Fahd bin Ayad Al Maashari, Wahaj bin Mohammed Al Balushi, Issa bin Mubarak Al Qasimi, Omair bin Ali Al Balushi, Maitham bin Talal Al Awaisi, Waleed bin Nasser Al Balushi, Al Aws bin Ali Al Balushi, Mohammed bin Suleiman Al Maimani, Al Mamoun bin Adel Al Hasani, Mohammed bin Badr Al Hasani, Al Khattab bin Nasr Al Hasani, Bashar bin Ibrahim Al Wahibi, Hamza bin Ahmed Al Hasani, Abdulaziz bin Ali Al Saifi, Luay bin Ali Al Sulaimani, Hamed Al Mashaikhi, Emad bin Mohammed Al Ghilani, Al Yasa bin Badr Al Tamimi and Ahmed bin Saeed Al Mansouri.
The coaching staff aims to ensure the team reaches full readiness ahead of the tournament, with qualification to the advanced stages and competing for a place at the World Championship among the team’s key objectives.
