    • Omani doctor wins award in ACEP Scientific Assembly 2022

    Dr. Osama Al-Khilasi is the first Omani doctor to participate in this conference, which is considered the largest gathering of emergency physicians in the world.

    Dr. Osama Al-Khelasi, a resident physician in the Emergency Medicine Program, participated in an oral research presentation, and won the Best Researcher Award in the Resident Physician category at the annual conference “2022 American College of Emergency Physicians Scientific Assembly (ACEP)”. This is the largest scientific gathering of emergency medicine in the world and is held annually with the participation of more than 400 new scientific research papers in various fields of emergency medicine.

    The title of his research came about: Comparison of the pain reliever ketorolac by nasal spray with the same type of intravenous ketorolac in the treatment of renal colic. This research presents a new alternative to the intravenous treatment of acute renal colic pain in the emergency department, which is to provide the treatment as a nasal spray. This new method is easy to use, fast and does not require the use of a needle for intravenous treatment of the patient, as is the case in the traditional method. The study included about 170 patients with renal colic. The study showed the effectiveness of this method and that its efficiency is not less than that of intravenous medication to relieve severe pain due to renal colic.
