Oman Fisheries Landings Rise 1.5% to RO 320.8 Million in 2026

Muscat:  The total value of fish landed through artisanal, coastal and commercial fishing, as well as aquaculture, in the Sultanate of Oman reached approximately RO 320.795 million by the end of June 2026, registering a 1.5% increase compared with RO 316.112 million during the corresponding period of 2025, according to preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The total volume of fish landed through artisanal, coastal and commercial fishing reached 468,407 tonnes by the end of June 2026, compared with 469,175 tonnes during the same period in 2025, representing a slight decline of 0.2%.

Artisanal fishing accounted for the largest share, with landings declining by 0.3% to 416,683 tonnes, compared with 418,133 tonnes during the corresponding period of 2025.

Al Wusta Governorate ranked first among Oman’s governorates in artisanal fish landings, recording 149,434 tonnes, followed by South Al Sharqiyah with 115,055 tonnes.

North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah recorded a combined 51,721 tonnes, followed by Dhofar with 49,865 tonnes. Muscat Governorate recorded 25,995 tonnes, while Musandam recorded 24,612 tonnes.

Meanwhile, commercial fishing landings increased by 1.4% to 46,232 tonnes, compared with 45,616 tonnes during the same period of 2025.

Coastal fishing also recorded growth of 1.2%, reaching 5,492 tonnes, compared with 5,426 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.

By species, small pelagic fish accounted for the largest share of artisanal landings, with 206,913 tonnes, followed by large pelagic fish at 127,831 tonnes and demersal fish at 65,194 tonnes.

Other unclassified species accounted for 11,389 tonnes, followed by sharks at 2,974 tonnes, while crustaceans and mollusks recorded the lowest volume at 2,382 tonnes.
