Muscat- (ONA): His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik today issued four Royal decrees, reading as follows:
Royal Decree No. (79/2026) concerning amendment of certain provisions of the Basic Law of the State.
Article (1) stipulates that the phrase “Public Attorney Office,” shall be replaced with the phrase “Public Prosecution” whenever it appears in the laws and Royal decrees.
Article (2) cancels all that contradicts this decree or contravenes its provisions.
Article (3) says that this decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and enforced from its date of issue.
Royal Decree No. (80/2026) on amending the designation of the Public Attorney’s Office
Article (1) stipulates that the designation of the “Public Attorney’s Office” shall be replaced with the Public Prosecution.
Article (2) says that the phrases “Public Attorney’s Office” and “Public Prosecutor” shall be replaced with “Public Prosecution” and “Attorney General” whenever they appear in the laws and Royal decrees. It also stipulates that the designations “Assistant Public Prosecutor,” “Assistants to the Public Prosecutor,” “Heads of Public Prosecution,” “First Public Prosecution Deputies,” “Second Public Prosecution Deputies,” and “Assistant Public Prosecutors” shall likewise be substituted by the job titles “Deputy Attorney General ,” “Assistants to the Attorney General,” “Heads of Attorney General Office,” “First Attorney General Deputies,” “Second Attorney General Deputies,” and “Public Prosecution Associates” wherever they appear in laws and Royal Decrees.
Article (3) cancels all that contradicts this decree or contravenes its provisions.
Article (4) says that this decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and enforced from its date of issue.
Royal Decree No. (81/2026) on appointing an Attorney General.
Article (1) appoints Nasr bin Khamis bin Mohammed Al Sawaee as Attorney General.
Article (2) says that this decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and enforced from its date of issue.
Royal Decree No. (82/2026) ascribes the public utility status to the project of designing and implementing Barka Link dual-carriageway in South Al Batinah Governorate and A’Suwaiq Link Road, in addition to the flyover in North Al Batinah Governorate.
Article (1) stipulates that the project of designing and implementing Barka Link dual-carriageway in South Al Batinah Governorate and A’Suwaiq Link Road, in addition to the flyover in North Al Batinah Governorate, as defined in the memo and diagram attached to this decree, shall be deemed a public utility project.
Article (2) states that the authorities concerned may take over, by direct implementation, the properties and lands necessary for the aforementioned project, along with any structures therein, in accordance with the provisions of the Public Utility Expropriation Law issued by Royal Decree No. 71/2023.
Article (3) says that this decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and take effect from its date of issue.
